Private Label Is Reshaping the Retail Landscape
The rise of private label in Italy in recent years has gone hand in hand with the expansion of discount retailers, where these brands account for more than 65% of business. However, traditional formats still have considerable room to grow their own-label ranges. They will succeed if they consolidate the shift from a mere pricing tool to a genuine asset and a distinctive part of the retailer’s identity. This creates opportunities for both domestic and international suppliers. Traditionally, Italy has not been an easy market for foreign suppliers. Italians are very Italian, but the door is increasingly open to new propositions.
